Consider research among delegates arriving at this week's World Travel Market that has revealed nearly half of all future travellers won't use modern-day internet advisers like TripAdvisor and Twitter to shape their holiday plans. A nationally-representative sample of 1,000 UK holidaymakers, all of whom had taken a summer break this year, were asked about the impact that social media had during the decision-making phase. People follow you on Twitter because they like what you’re saying, and the more people who follow you, the larger your reach is. If you are a marketer, there is no point in pursuing a twitter strategy that doesn’t include getting as many followers as possible. Naturally, one of the most important measures of success on Twitter is follower count, and I compared that to the replies percentage–the percentage of your Tweets that start with an @ sign–of a random selection of over 130,000 Twitter users. (February 3, 2011) ForeSee Results, the Michigan-based global leader in technology-driven customer satisfaction analytics, today released its annual report on the state of social media effectiveness for retailers in the United States.  The report shows that social media interactions are a primary influence for only about 5% of visitors to retail websites. The research indicates that, in fact, more traditional marketing techniques like promotional emails, search engine results, and even advertising influence far more visits to retail websites. We found Eight Success Criteria for Facebook page marketing, and then tested the maturity of 30 top brands across six industries. Our heuristic evaluation revealed that brands fell short – nearly half of the brands we reviewed (14 out of 30) did not fully leveraged social features to activate word of mouth, the hallmark behavior of social networks.
